Developing a Preproposal

Preproposal Application General Information: The first step in the application process is submission of a preproposal, a one-page statement of the goal of your project, rational, and the team qualifications. The form used in submitting the Preproposal also includes contact information and other details useful in evaluating the idea. Preproposals are reviewed by the Foundation Research Management Committee and Scientific Advisory Board and are evaluated for their merit and likelihood of practical solutions relative to the citrus crises we are facing. Successful outcome of the Preproposal step is invitation to submit a full proposal.

The duration proposed for a project should not exceed three years. Individual awards will be based on the recommendations made to the Foundation as a result of the submission of an invited full proposal application and completion of the evaluation process.

Eligibility: Any appropriate research institution or organization is eligible to submit a preproposal for funding, including academic and private organizations, non-profit, commercial, federal or state entities and individuals of any citizenship or location.

Application and Submission Information: Adobe Acrobat PDF forms provide an easy and efficient way to notify the Foundation of your proposed idea. These instructions explain how to complete and submit the form properly. Refer to the forms menu on the Funding and Proposals page or Download the Preproposal Form. (Use Save As… to save the file to local disk. You can also print a blank form and use it for brainstorming before you complete the digital version.)

    1. How to Submit Your Preproposal PDF Form After you complete your PDF Form, save a copy to your local disk. Next, click on the Submit Proposal button at the bottom of the form. This will automatically send your email to the Foundation.  If you are unable to create this email message, manually compose and send a new email message with your saved Preproposal attached to catp@citrusrdf.org.  Be sure to copy yourself in the email message to verify your PDF form is transmitted properly.
    2. Following review and evaluation of preproposals, CRDF invites full proposal applications by posting those preproposals selected at our web page (link), along with the CRDF project number.  A CRDF Project number will be assigned to each Preproposal invited to submit a full proposal, allowing tracking of project information from this point onward. The preproposal process provides clarity to both sponsor and applicant on the significance and applications of the research proposed and is also used to maintain a reasonably high success rate for full proposal applicants.
